The original campus was constructed in 1961.

Classes open in January 1962.  Principal: Mr. C.W. Harris

Did you know that the first graduating class moved from their Euclid school mid-year and those seniors received their diplomas from Euclid Junior-Senior High School? 

The next year the graduates also were graduates of Euclid High School.  The name change came in 1964 and Southwestern remained a junior-senior high school to 1969 when integration merged the high school with DeLand High School.

 

 The next major change came with integration in 1969.  Form 1969 to 1988 Southwestern was for 7th graders only.

From 1988 to present, the school has been for 6th through 8th grade,  At that time, Volusia schools shifted from junior high schools to the middle school format with high schools serving 9th through 12th grades.
